Don't Roll Over In Bed ... And Other Close Calls!

Hey!!!

Sorry its taken so long to write. In the MTC our P-Day was on Tuesday and that was the day we left the MTC. Here in the field it’s on Monday so I didn’t get a P-Day last week. Anyways … to begin … happy late Father’s Day Dad!!!!!! I knew it was Father’s Day but I haven’t been able to write or anything until today. Secondly, “Happy late Birthday Kassie!!!!!!” How was it and what did you do? And now … “‎Happy Birthday Brittin and Belle!!!!! I finally got one sent on time. haha Hope you both have a good day! You'll have to tell me all about it." I love you all!

Sounds like you all are having a good time! Was The Tournament of Kings as good as when we went before? And did you guys buy a boat for the lake with the Aussie’s? And if so … what kind?

Things are good here. Very different from anything I’ve experienced before and very different from the States. haha My apartment is tiny. Probably about the size of our family room and really dirty too. Like disgustingly dirty. I was cleaning a ton today. I don’t understand how anyone could stand it. I was so grossed out there. But it’s a little bit better now that I’ve cleaned. Also, my bed was definitely made for a little Brazilian not for me. The end of it is on my shins when I lay on my stomach and I can’t roll over or else I’ll fall off.

The Provo MTC Is What I Needed

Hey!!!

Glad to hear you’re having fun!! We’ve been out and about ever since we got back from the temple. I guess everything (laundry and computers) are really crowded right after you get back so we went out first.

First of all, it’s definitely different here. haha As soon as we left the airport, I was like, “Whoa this is crazy!” (Oh did you get my letter? We were allowed to send one letter via pouch mail sending info home. I added a bit more to it for you guys.) Motorcycles split lanes like they do in California only all the cars are going freeway speeds and most of the time they are going even faster. It’s ridiculous.

I’m still companions with Elder Downer and I didn’t get to be in the same District as the guys from Provo. We got added to an already existing one and I only know one more Elder other than Downer. It's good but I do miss my old District.

On The Road Again!

Dear Family,

So it’s P-Day today and we’re on our way to the temple right now. It’s a bumpy drive so it makes writing pretty difficult. It’s cool seeing the scenery around here.

Things are going good. I’m getting a bit better at Portuguese from talking to the Brazilians. It’s really cool in Brazil! I wish you all could see it. It’s very different from the United States. Last night we had hot dogs Brazilian style. It was interesting. They have spices on the hot dogs themselves and put mashed potatoes and these little chip things. (They are kind of like the long pieces at the bottom of a bag of Ruffle Chips.) Not too crazy about it. haha

A Fun New Adventure Begins!

Dear Family,

I made it to Brazil safe. They are having us write on this paper so you have all the instructions. Just a couple of things that I’m suppose to stress to everyone and let everyone know …

#1 - No packages allowed. No arguments. Only when I get out into the field. Plus, I probably won’t get them before I leave and they said they will not forward them to us.

#2 - On the address on the envelopes sent to me … you need to put my full name and do everything exactly like it is in the example box.

Ok. That’s pretty much it. Just read all the other instructions. Oh, also, on packages sent to the mission … don’t put “religious material” or any pictures of Christ or Mary. Apparently the pictures cause problems for the Church and if the claim says “religious material” and they scan it and see anything else, you can get in a lot of trouble. Like hefty fines. According to the people here, you can rely on the mail here as far as safety of your stuff. They say it’s as good as the mail system in the States.

He Arrived!

Dear Parents,

We are happy to send the good news that your missionary has arrived safely at the Brazil MTC. What a great joy and privilege it is to greet each missionary as they come through the front door of the MTC for the first time. We promise to take good care of your missionary.

They now have companions and are settled into their rooms. They are assigned to a district with capable and caring instructors for language and lesson study. The branch presidents and their wives, will soon give them a second greeting. These couples are rewarded in their callings through the love they always develop as they embrace and watch over the missionaries.

A Final Farewell From The Provo MTC

Hey Mom!!!

Yes … I was able to print off the email so I can read it and think of what I want to reply and save time. Ok … so for my flight information … I leave Salt Lake City at 1:50 p.m. and arrive in Atlanta at 7:40 p.m. (Georgia time, I believe, so around 4:40 for you guys if I got the time difference right.) Then, I leave Atlanta at 9:20 p.m. and arrive in São Paulo at 8:15 the next day. I hear the ride from the airport to the CTM is an experience! haha Apparently, they don’t enforce any street laws so all the laws are basically "suggestions". haha Our teacher was saying a road will be three lanes wide, yet there will be five cars driving next to each other very fast on the road. Driving in Brazil was compared to a huge game of Mario Cart where everyone is going fast, it’s crowded, people are cutting each other off, and occasionally throwing things at another car. Sounds like fun! I’ll probably be calling around 5 pm (your time) from Atlanta. If I have time in Salt Lake, then probably around noon or somewhere around then. I’m not sure when we actually get to the airport. Basically … just always have a phone around.

Yes, I found the “thing” Theo left and I’m going to leave something extra for Tanner in the same spot Theo put the “thing“. It was a well thought out spot.

"Stories" From The MTC

Dear Mom,

Sounds like you had a good birthday! When did you get the pictures? Were they late? Maybe once I get my visa and take off, when I call home, I can explain who the people are in the pictures I sent. A couple were cut off so I couldn’t send them. Not sure why. But they probably won’t be cut off on the cd.

I can’t believe those two made it all the way. I would have been so mad if I was watching it. (Oh … on The Biggest Loser by the way.) Yesterday I was talking to President Braithwaite and Sister Braithwaite (my Branch President and his wife) about it. I can’t believe the Olympian quit. That’s horrible! But, ya, President B. didn’t seem to care too much about the two girls who won. Sister B. seemed indifferent.
